Argan oil is a plant oil from the kernels of the argan tree. It contains a large variety of healthy constituents: vitamin E, flavonoids and carotenoids. Most of these constituents are known for their antioxidant properties, but also support the immune system and modulate the inflammation process. In this respect, argan oil may have beneficial effect on the cardiovascular system and could reduce the risk for atherosclerosis, hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases.
In addition, argan oil consists for about 80% of unsaturated fatty acids. Unsaturated fatty acids are believed to be a healthier alternative to saturated fatty acids since they have less effect on low density lipoproteins (LDL) cholesterol. Research has shown that argan oil reduces the formation of oxidants during inflammatory reactions which relieves pain.
