Beta-carotene

Beta-carotene belongs to the carotenoids that are known as red, orange, and yellow pigments. Beta-carotene and other carotenoids provide approximately 50% of the vitamin A needed in the diet. Beta-carotene is present in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Beta-carotene may prevent certain cancers, heart disease, cataracts, osteoarthritis, and age-related macular degeneration. It may also support the skin and normal blood pressure, and might reduce symptoms of breathing disorders such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
